The ranger talk at the Visitor Center was very good but we had schedule conflicts with the ranger-led hikes, which was a disappointment. This place is not dog-friendly at all.
There is a short stretch of concrete between the marina and the Visitor Center where you are allowed to walk your dog. With all the property they have, it seems they could carve out a fenced-in dog park. It was impossible to get our dogs enough exercise while we were there. A ranger told me we could let our dogs off leash on any open gravel road but she also said bears could be a problem. Apparently, Dornan's in Moose is a local institution.
The deli sandwiches are outstanding. The National Museum of Wildlife Art is nice for a bad weather day, and the current exhibit through August is exceptional.
It is a photographic study of the migration of Yellowstone ungulates. Lousy campground in a beautiful location. You have to pay premium price due to the fact they are basing their rate on Jackson campgrounds. The handout you receive with the CG map is a poor copy of a copy - hard to read. Sites are a mess and don't appear to have been touched for routine cleaning and this is the beginning of the season!
Loop A is directly behind the grocery store, showers and laundry. This fact may sound appealing to some but it is a curse. The area is very busy and noisy during the day. At night you can clearly hear the fan on the chiller unit on top of the store cycling off and on every couple of minutes and it is very noisy! They advertise Wifi in the campground but you have to go to the store to access it.
Nice park in an excellent location. Narrow roads that could use some TLC. Sites are pull-through and many most are sloped creating leveling challenges for some rigs. Gravel parking area with adjacent areas pine needle covered dirt with sparse vegetation. Restrooms were not cleaned during our three day stay. Close to services fuel, general store and resturaunt.
Nearby free Wi-Fi is really slow. Perfect location next to Jackson Lake. Best option we found for full hook-up in Grand Teton NP. A very pretty treed park but the sites were unlevel, all pull thru sites and not too close together. Beautiful areas and animals to see. Campground is practically across the street from Jackson Lake and great Teton views. First night there was an electrical brownout and we had to rely on battery power, but by morning was fixed and no further trouble.
But many chunks of wood later, it was workable. Plenty wide and long enough, included an old picnic table. Park was nestled among the lodgepole pines and LONG loop around the park was great for walking the dogs no dogs are allowed on park trails. Campground is only 18 miles from Yellowstone, so ideal for exploring both National parks. We were early season and none of the services were available, but being self contained, we didn't need them, and very few people in the park for the first several days we were there.
But with the scenic opportunities, you won't miss them. While we were there we saw moose, elk, bison, mule and whitetail deer, two grizzly bears each with two yearling cubs, fox, coyote and pronghorns.
Loved this campground and it's location NORTH of all the people! We stayed six nights but also explored east of the park and into Southern Yellowstone. Whiskey Mountain BigHorn refuge was delightful. The Glacier Trail took us to a great waterfall. There is NO place around here that is not scenic and awe inspiring.
Be sure to bring your binoculars and a camera, the wildlife is plentiful! Take in the area. Sit at the lake. Watch the sunset over the Tetons. Go to Jenny Lake. Hike one or more of the many, many trails. Sit in the large room watching the Tetons at Jackson Lake Lodge it's okay. We went to Jackson on one day and on another to Jackson Hole on another.
Walk along the trails around the lake. Also went to the restaurant which was OK. Bring a bike to go around faster. General store, laundry facility, visitor center, the marina and gift shops are cluster together. Rent a kayak, canoe, motor boat, or go on the scenic boat cruise that takes you close to the foot of the mountain at the marina. Go on a beautiful hike on the Hermitage Point trailhead next to marina that hugs the lake.
You know why you are in Grand Teaton. Go to the Jackson Lake Lodge. Great food and views. Has a business center plus good cell and wi-fi, just slooooow. Tell them where you are staying and the will give you the door code. Food there is very good. SB, it's a 5star resort. Drive to top of signal mountain for fantastic views. Also Jenny Lake Lodge. We did eat there but clearly an upscale small Lodge feel and very good menu. The Lake is great and clean. We kayaked it and it was great.
Any kayak, canoe 10feet and longer needs a permit. We saw 2 when we were there. One in the campground, and one in the peninsula. Take the scenic road to Jackson Hole and take the lift to the top of the mountain. Go see Jenny Lake-stunning. We could not get in til late but it smelled so good in there. Picnic tables located on the beach as well as at campsites. It was amazing the number of large rigs that made it into the spaces and did not seem to have trouble getting in and out.
The rangers held a 'Constellation Night' after dark at the beach on Coulter Bay. Well worth the time. Lots to do at the lake. Rent a boat, take a tour, put your own boat in.
